The Concept Behind DECRO

Etisense’s wearable telemetry solution offers a non-invasive monitoring approach for physiological data collection in preclinical research and veterinary applications, from small to large animals.

This solution, thanks to its unique jackets embedding biosensors, enables continuous and real-time measurement of vital signs (ECG, respiratory rate, activity) without the need for surgery or restraint, reducing stress on animals and improving data quality and reproducibility.

It features a small-footprint hardware design, including a miniaturized Bluetooth emitter for seamless wireless transmission of physiological signals and a USB-rechargeable battery, making it convenient for repeated use and long recording sessions.

Quick and Easy Setup

Our jackets are designed to simplify the technician’s procedure and reduce the time required before collecting the first data. For small mammals, we have designed a patented fitting tube and jackets to facilitate dressing rats and marmosets. When it comes to larger species, we’ve created unique instrumented jackets that do not require undershirts or overshirts to provide high-quality and reliable signals.

One Jacket, One Animal, One Study

Jackets are reusable on the same animal for several days, until the size no longer fits.
Animals can exhibit normal behavior while wearing the jacket. Rats may wear a jacket continuously for 24 hours or more. Our jackets are simple to take off and put back on, allowing for weekly measurements.

3Rs-Compliant Monitoring

Our jackets simplify the process of gaining ethics committee approval for animal studies. They enable physiological data recording without invasive surgery or the stress of restraint in plethysmography chambers. This approach significantly reduces the severity of studies, allowing animals to be observed in their usual environment, often with their social groups. This fully aligns with the 3Rs guidelines (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement).

The DECRO® solution combines electronic and intuitive design to deliver high-quality physiological data without compromising animal welfare or research efficiency. At the core of this innovation are two key elements: a lightweight Bluetooth emitter and a compact acquisition system.

Compact Emitter

The DECRO emitter collects ECG, respiratory, and movement signals through a lightweight and ergonomic design that preserves natural animal behavior. Its compact, miniaturized form includes a low-energy Bluetooth transmitter with a 10 m wireless range, allowing seamless data transmission without cross-talk between multiple animals. Powered by usb-rechargeable and exchangeable batteries, it is ideal for multi-animal setups and longitudinal studies.

The device is EMC, CE, and RoHS certified, ensuring compliance with international safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and environmental standards.

Plug-and-Play Acquisition System

Simply use your web browser to wirelessly collect biosignals sent by the DECRO emitters via Bluetooth with our proprietary acquisition software integrated into DECRO hardware. With its minimal hardware footprint, DECRO hardware fits easily into any lab environment and can also be deployed as a mobile solution when needed.

Select the target specie, the software analyzers automatically detects cardiac / respiratory cycles using probabilistic algorithms and then calculate associated physiological parameters. Feel free to adjust the algorithms whenever necessary
Navigate effortlessly between averaged timepoint, cycle-to-cycle data, and raw signals for quick review, easily edit events or cycles. Annotate recordings to delineate specific periods (e.g., Day/Night) and reduce data before export with time bins averaging.

Your data, your tools

Our software offers flexible export options, providing raw and processed data in various standard formats (.csv, .xls, .hdf5, .edf) for easy integration with your favourite statistical or graph making tools like R, Python, Matlab®, Igor, Labchart, Veusz, etc… or in third party analysis software.
